What Gas port setting should I use?

There are four gas ports setting on the M12AK regulator (0-3). 1 is the smallest gas port setting, and 3 is the largest. “0” is the locked position and manual operation of the bolt is required while use this setting. What port you should use depends on the type of ammunition you are shooting. If using high velocity or magnum shot, you can reduce to port 2 or even 1. If you determine the recoil energy is not adequate to consistently eject shells, adjust the gas port to a the next higher gas setting number. We suggest you start shooting at the number 3 setting using 1250 fps ammunition.

Gas Port Setting Recommendation

Suggested Gas Port Settings Ammunition

0 - Manual (Single Shot)

1 - Greater than 1450fps

2 - 2-3/4” Shells | Velocity 1350 – 1475 fps | Load ≥1-1/8 Oz

3 - 2-3/4” Shells | Velocity 1250 - 1375 fps | Load ≥1 Oz

  • Please note that these are suggested settings. The optimal setting may vary based on the brand and quality of ammunition.
  • Always cycle your shotgun on the lowest possible setting that will allow it to cycle consistently.
  • If the shotgun cycles on setting #3 with a particular ammunition, attempt to run it on setting #2. If the shotgun stops cycling adjust it back to setting #3 as this would be the optimum setting for the ammunition being used.
  • Use this as a normal practice when attempting to use different ammuntions.

What type of shells work best?

Any ammunition that generates a muzzle velocity of 1250 fps or higher works well in the JTS line of shotguns. JTS shotguns can operate well with a variety of ammunition ranging from 1250 fps full magnum slugs. Shells need to be 2 3/4 to 3 inch as long. Be sure to refer to the above chart proper gas setting.

What should I do if my M12AK is having problems cycling rounds?

There are many different reasons why your shotgun may not be cycling properly. Often the reason for improper cycling is the use of ammunition that creates a muzzle velocity less than 1250 fps. Be sure that your gas setting is correct for the velocirty of ammo. Be sure you have cleaned and oiled your firearm If you continue to have issues please call our customer service line.

My shotgun does not load ammo into the chamber.

Do not ride the charging handle home when loading the shotgun. Pull the bolt carrier all the way back and let it go so it travels uninhibited forward. Many people try to be gental with the gun and do not let the bolt snap in place; but remember that is how the weapon operates when fired. Be sure the gun is pointed in a safe direction and then let it slam home.

Are higher-capacity magazine available?

The M12AK is sold with two 5 round magazines. 10 round magazines are available for all models. These can be purchased thru the JTS Store. Click here: Because this shotgun has a magwell, it does not accept drum magazines.

Can I shoot slugs in my M12AK?

Yes.

What is a shotgun with a magwell, and how does it affect the shotgun's operation?

A magwell is a shroud that fits over the magazine slot and serves as a guide for the magazine allowing easier insertion of the magazine into the receiver slot. This is in contrast to a non-magwell shotgun that requires a rocking motion to insert the magazine into the receiver.

Is there a difference between magwell and non-magwell magazines?

Yes. The magwell magazines lack a tab on the top front of the magazine, and the follower is slightly taller. These differences mean that standard “rock and lock” magazines will not work with shotguns with a magwell.

How often should I clean and maintain the shotgun?

Its recommend to clean your shotgun after each use. It is recommended that you clean the gas block after every time you shoot the gun. If the firearm is in storage, it should be thoroughly cleaned once or twice a year under dry condition and once a month under humid conditions to ensure the normal function.

How do I clean my M12AK JTS shotgun?

Read through the cleaning instructions and use high-quality cleaning kit to clean the firearm.

Warning! Before beginning the cleaning process, check to ensure the shotgun is unloaded. (See Section 3.5) We recommend cleaning the gun prior to first use.

A gun should be cleaned after firing. In addition, external parts should be wiped with an oiled cloth after handling. If a gun is used frequently, it must be cleaned after each firing and regularly serviced by a professional gunsmith. If the gun has been stored, remove all excess oil and/or grease before firing. Always check to be sure that no cleaning patch or other obstruction remains in the bore or chambers before firing.

If there is powder residue in the gun, it may result in the gun not operating optimally unless it is properly cleaned and maintained. The regulator holes, piston, bolt carrier group and barrel bore must be properly cleaned, wiped and lubricated.

  1. Obtain a quality shotgun cleaning kit and thoroughly review the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Follow the shotgun disassembly procedures. (See Section 4)
  3. To clean the barrel, select the correct caliber cleaning brush and attach it to a cleaning rod.
  4. Dampen the brush with gun cleaning solvent and push the brush through the barrel several times.
  5. Remove the brush and attach a correctly sized cloth cleaning patch to the cleaning rod and push it through the barrel several times to remove loosened fouling.
  6. Repeat this process with the brush and cleaning patches until a final patch comes out clean after swabbing the bore. Lightly oil the bore.
  7. Remove shooting residue from the shotgun's action parts and outer surfaces by wiping them with a soft cloth dabbed in gun cleaning solvent. Then be sure to remove all excess solvent and dry them.
  8. The regulator holes, piston, and barrel bore must be properly cleaned, wiped and lubricated.
  9. Finally, wipe down all outer surfaces with a soft cloth dipped in a good quality gun oil.

Warning! Handling ammunition and cleaning the gun may cause spread of lead or other substances, presenting threat to health. Wash hands and face after shooting and cleaning.

Warning! Regularly have the gun checked by an authorized firearm professional for worn out or damaged parts to ensure its safety and service life.

Warning! In cleaning the gun, eye protector, such as shooting glasses or goggles should be worn to avoid potential injuries caused by detergent, lubricants and elastic components like springs.

Warning! Excessive use of detergent or lube oil will be counterproductive. Prior to shooting, wipe the barrel bore with dry cloth to ensure that there is no foreign object therein.

Warning! Some detergents may produce harmful gases. Read and follow the warning instructions on the package by the detergent manufacturer.

Warning! Some parts may be with sharp edges. It is recommended to wear gloves to protect hands during cleaning.

Do I need to clean the gas ports periodically to keep them working properly?

Depending on the type of ammunition you’re firing, your gas piston could get fouled up to the point of malfunction after 150 to 500 rounds. To clean, remove the regulator dial screw and take off the regulator dial completely and remove. Then push out the regulator and its piston. Thoroughly clean inside the gas tube, clean the piston, and then reassemble.
